Because of the excellent safety standards in our warehouse we got in 2019 invited, along with six other companies from the technical wholesale sector, to join a "front-runners group" working on the Code for a Healthy and Safe Warehouse Excellence. On May 16th 2022, we underwent the final audit at our facility, and having met all the established criteria, we had the privilege of being the first to receive the certificate for this code during the10th Occupational Health and Safety Prevention Afternoon for the Technical Wholesale sector.
The 10th national Occupational Health and Safety Prevention Afternoon took place at the Bovag House in Bunnik. We were warmly welcomed with a delicious lunch, followed by a captivating keynote speech from motivational speaker Karl Raats. He encouraged the attendees to step out of their comfort zones and use his brainstorm techniques to come up with ideas to improve adherence to occupational health and safety practices within an organization.
In rotating groups of four, we participated in these tasks, providing us with the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with other visitors who are also engaged in prevention efforts. It was a productive and insightful event, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among like-minded individuals.
After Karl Raats' exercises, the initiator Mark Fleuren shared insights about the Code for Healthy and Safe Warehouse in the Technical Wholesale sector. The attendees from the front-runners group were invited to share how the code they developed had contributed to their organizations. Lastly, our own Warehouse and Logistics manager, Joop, was called on stage to receive the certificate and he explained how safety has become deeply ingrained in Dulimex's warehouse operations.
A safe and healthy working environment go beyond merely checking off a list of requirements. Therefore, the developed code primarily focuses on enhancing and ensuring safety in a warehouse. As Joop states, "Health and Safety should be ingrained in our DNA and become second nature."
The Code for Healthy and Safe Warehouse covers nine specific topics on which safety is evaluated, namely:
With the exception of hazardous substances (which we do not handle), all topics were audited by TÜV Nord on May 16th. It became evident that safe practices are truly second nature to our colleagues. Therefore, we are proud of being the first to receive the certificate for the Code for Healthy and Safe Warehouse. We are delighted that our commitment to safety has been recognized and validated by the audit, demonstrating the dedication of our team in ensuring a secure working environment.
We look back on a day of learning and success, and we sincerely hope that the Code for Healthy and Safe Warehouse will assist multiple warehouses in the technical wholesale sector.
